This colorful Banff engagement session from popular Banff wedding photographer, Kim Payant Photography, takes us to the Magpie and Stump and then to surrounding areas. When you have your engagement photos in a Mexican restaurant and cantina, you can be certain it will be fun and colourful!
I love that this couple chose to do something a little out the box for their engagement session and visited the place of one of their early first dates. These cheerful photos are sure to make you smile. Vanessa and Jason look like they had fun too!
Our first “away for the weekend” date, was in Banff in December 2010. We stayed at the Hidden Ridge Resort and went to the Magpie & Stump for drinks after dinner at Saltlik. We played a game (that has since become a tradition when we travel) of trying to guess “where are they from? what do they do? what do they drive etc?” of the people at other tables. I won that night with a guess of a Ford Taurus – we could see the couple get in their car, as they were parked just outside the window.
We got engaged outside of Lake Louise on October 19, 2013. We were staying at Baker Creek Mountain Resort for the weekend and went on a day hike out to Boom Lake. We had packed a snack so when we got to the lake, Jason forged a trail out to a small point, where there was a log to sit on right next to the water. He proposed with a beautiful ring, I cried, and then Jason got out a bottle of champagne he’d snuck into his backpack. We also ended up sharing our celebratory snack of trailmix with some hungry Whiskeyjacks.
We chose Emerald Lake Lodge for our wedding as it is an amazingly beautiful and romantic spot that was perfect for our very small elopement/wedding. Only Jason, myself, our parents, and siblings will be in attendance. The venue and time of year also tie into the other big milestones of our relationship (Banff National Park in the Winter). After our wedding on March 14, we are headed to Peru for our honeymoon.
