From the Bride:
“Kyle had planned out a big hike in Banff along our road trip through the Rockies. Kyle had planned a hike up the mountain, and was going to propose at the top after having professed his love and willingness to climb any mountain for Katie.
Unfortunately the morning of, we woke up to a very cold, snowy day even though it was the end of May!
Kyle quickly switched to Plan B – a drive to a secluded beach behind a lake not too far out of Banff. The snow got the best of us again and we weren’t able to walk very far before the cold was too much for our spring clothes and we turned around.
The proposal finally happened in the car. Kyle asked Katie to remind him of his favourite penguin story – how penguin’s mate for life. The male penguin will spend days searching the beach for the perfect stone to present to his lady penguin; if she accepts, they’ll be partners for life. After the story, Kyle pulled out the ring and said “well I think I found the perfect stone for you. Will you marry me? The rest is history!”
The Wedding Day:
“The first look was so special. It was such a wonderful intimate quiet moment in a very full day. I also remember walking outside and seeing all of our family for the first time on the way to have our pictures taken. That was the moment it all hit me – I was a bride and we were getting married!!! The intimate and casual feeling of the wedding was exactly what we wanted. We didn’t have a sit down dinner, but instead had a ton of passed hors d’oeuvres. We wanted everyone to mingle and meet each other and we definitely achieved that! There were a lot of new connections made that night and we couldn’t be more thrilled.”
“My dress was actually the second dress I purchased. I got cold feet with the first dress and so purchased my second dress through Isabelle Bridal in North Vancouver. My dress was a Venus Bridal gown and it was exactly what i had always dreamed of.
The bridesmaid dresses were from Lisa’s Bridal in New Westminster. All the girls fell in love with the same dress. What are the odds! They were an Alfred Angelo dress with some alterations to the original.”
“Everything!! It was so unique! The catch words I had wanted from the beginning for our day was casual elegance. The Loden embodied both of these concepts to a T. You can’t get much more elegant than the penthouse suite of a top rated downtown hotel. To make things even better, they had fantastic suggestions for making a wedding work without the sit down dinner, and put in every effort to keep the process as fun, light and relaxed as possible. It was an elegant penthouse party!”
The booth-less photobooth of Vancouver Photobooth was also a HUGE hit. We ended up asking them to stay later because the guests were having too much fun! It was the perfect use for the small 2nd bedroom of the penthouse.
