We’re thrilled to share this fun, Whistler engagement session from the very talented Matt Kennedy Photography!

Whistler Engagement Session from Matt Kennedy Photography

When a Canadian and Australian decide to marry in Australia, it’s almost inevitable that their engagement photographs will be in Canada. Sarah and Jamie decided to just that!

Sarah’s Canadian and Jamie’s Australian. Their original plans included a beach wedding in Australia, so they chose to have their engagement photographs at Whistler. What better place to have a true Canadian experience than Whistler BC, home to the Alpine and Nordic ski events at the 2010 Winter Olympic Games?

Located two hours north of Vancouver, in the spectacular Coastal Mountains, Whistler is a popular destination for skiers and tourists alike. Situated between Whistler and Backcomb mountains, is Whistler Village. It’s where Sarah and Jamie met with their talented photographer Matt Kennedy for this fun engagement session. We must say that the results are spectacular!

From Sarah

“We chose Whistler because the plan was to have an Australian beach wedding, so we wanted a Canadian engagement session. Now that wedding plans have changed due to a baby on its way, we will be getting married in the summer of 2017 in Vancouver. The plan is to do a backyard garden wedding. So, we’ll still have that contrast of winter engagement photos and a summer wedding.

Something fun about the shoot is that we were both freezing! Especially Jamie who has lived in Australia most of his life. The whistler chill was quite a shock for him! In all of the photos on the ski hill Jamie is actually holding me up because the bottom of my boots were so slippery.”

Mount Washington Winter Inspiration | Photo by Island Moments Photography

From Island Moments Photography:

“If you’ve ever made the journey to Mount Washington on Vancouver Island, you will immediately see why so many people who visit can’t help but say “it’s magic!”

There is something pretty darn amazing about walking on a seashell strewn beach in the morning, and having lunch amidst towering drifts of gorgeous, powdery snow just a few hours later.

When you leave the Island Highway in the Comox Valley you are still surrounded by a vibrant emerald forest – no matter what the season!  Climbing the mountain…switchback, switchback, green, green and then POW – suddenly there is snow… and not just a little bit.  Winter tires required, you are driving through a virtual tunnel of the white stuff!

When we contacted the resort about our session they warned us – to stay on the trail.  Lisa took one tiny step off the snow-packed path, and sunk into snow as high as her waist.  Needless to say that was all the warning everyone involved in the shoot needed.

Our models, Selina and Lee – are a couple – and it’s easy to see just how in love they are!

From a parking lot attendant who kindly showed us to the best spot on the mountain (in trade for a few home-made cookies), to the whiskey jacks that deigned to land on Lee’s hand for a few sunflower seeds, to mother nature who kindly shone golden light on us all – the session was breathtaking!

We hope you love this little bit of island magic on the mountain!”  ox, L&L

From Megan (Bride to be):

“Trevor and I met in grade 11 when we both ended up taking the same class. By the middle of grad 12 we became a couple and have been together ever since. It’s been 8 years!

I am a HUGE Harry Potter fan and for my 24th birthday Trevor surprised me with a trip to Florida and to universal studios (and specifically the Wizarding World of Harry Potter). On our last day of our trip we went to the park. There is a model of the Hogwarts Express there. Trevor asked me to take a photo with him in front of it. He asked a stranger to take our picture and in the middle of getting our picture taken, he got down on one knee and proposed! There was a crowd of people around and they all clapped. One girl yelled out, “I hope someone proposes to me like that!”.

“We decided to get married at SAIT to carry on the Harry Potter theme. They have a ‘castle’ building and a room inside that fits the theme perfectly. The day is fast approaching and we couldn’t be more excited!”~ bride to be, Megan

From Laura MacDonald Photography

“Megan and Trevor are such a sweet couple, and I wanted to capture their natural sweet personalities. I decided to weave Megan’s love of Harry Potter into their engagement session. Megan and Trevor were very willing to venture out of Calgary to Mount Lorette Ponds in Kananaskis. The sweeping vista’s, forests, and epic mountain’s of Alberta reminded me too of landscapes from Harry Potter. I was envisioning Megan, and Trevor surrounded the by the golden light coming over the mountains at sunset. I am really excited to be shooting Megan’s and Trevor’s June wedding!” ~ Laura MacDonald Photography

Thank you to Laura MacDonald Photography for sending us this Kananaskis engagement and to Megan and Trevor for letting us share in their day. We wish you all the best in your upcoming wedding!!

From Melissa Rae Photography:

“Sheenagh and Tanner are a sweet, easy going couple who love to laugh and spend time in the outdoors with their son and two dogs. They chose to have their engagement session in the mountains as that is where their first date took place, snowboarding. The date didn’t end so well with Sheenagh breaking her wrist! Sheenagh brought along super cute bride and groom hats from Etsy to incorporate into their session and use on their invites!” ~ Melissa Rae Photography

Our first glimpse of Edmonton based Tricia Victoria Photography came by way of her Instagram feed. She’s an amazing talent and has an artist’s eye. She captures candid moments of real emotion like no other! Her photos exude her energy and passion for her craft.

“I am first a child of the living God. I am a mother. I am a wife. I am an artist. I am a creature of passion and emotion. I am so many things and I often feel like I could burst from trying to contain it all. I do what I do because I love it. It’s hard and it’s important. Its rewarding and wonderful. It fulfills my creative itch and I would live in a shoebox if it meant I could continue to do it.

I have been refining my style over the last seven years and have finally come into my own with images that look like film. I love to capture emotion and moments as they happen…little things that appear to be obscure or meaningless. These things often have more meaning than what’s plainly evident.” ~ tricia victoria photography
