This modern Canmore mountain wedding is special to us at Canadian Mountain Chic. You might remember, Breanne and Tristan from their fun, picnic engagement session we featured last year.

Breanne and Tristan are a super sweet, awesome couple and once again they teamed up with Banff wedding photographer, Kim Payant Photography, and Canmore wedding planner, Naturally Chic. The result was a gorgeous day for this amazing couple! This pretty wedding is loaded with wedding inspiration for modern mountain wedding.

Breanne is an event planner with a penchant for modern aesthetics. The Grande Rockies Resort in Canmore, Alberta was a perfect fit for her modern Canmore mountain wedding. Breanne wanted to a little glam too and the Grande Rockies Penthouse suite fit perfectly for her pre-wedding activities.

The couple chose shades of purple and ivory for their wedding couples. Breanne wanted the room to look elegant, so chose two different table cloths that had a touch of shimmer. She used small touches of purple with the menu / thank you card and centerpieces. The space looked elegant and classic without being overly purple.

From the Bride:

CMC ” What were your top three moments of the day?”

Bride: – “Our first look. It was a really special moment because it was just the two of us. Being such a busy day it was so nice to have a few minutes just the two of us could share. It was also the perfect opportunity to show Tristan that I had his ring engraved with our wedding date and our song, Better Together.

When my veil flew off during the ceremony. It was a windy day and I had trouble keeping my veil on during our photos but really wanted to wear it as I walked down the aisle. Mid way through the ceremony it came off and flew towards our guests, thankfully someone caught it. Everyone laughed and I joked that this was in lieu of having a bouquet toss. It was a funny moment and helped us to relax.

Reception dance. We had the best dance party. Everyone was on the dance floor the whole night. It was so much fun. The floor was packed until it was time for the music to turn off.

Our wedding song.  Jack Johnson, Better Together. This was the song that Tristan chose to play when he proposed.” ~ Breanne

CMC – What were your top three wedding details?

Bride: “Centerpieces. I thought they were so beautiful. I told our florist I wanted a mix of succulents and flowers in shades of purple and white. Our wedding coordinator made wooden boxes and gold table number signs. I was so impressed how it all came together.

Sweets table. The sweets were delicious and the table looked great. I had ordered a mix of cookies, cupcakes and a small wedding cake that matched our colours. After a three course dinner I wanted to offer our guests an opportunity to have something little sweet if they wanted.

My dress. I love my dress. I had been looking for something fitted at the top with a full skirt and just the right amount of sparkle. When I found this dress I knew it was perfect. I bought the dress in Winnipeg before I moved to Calgary, so the dress has extra special significance because I bought it with my family in my hometown.”

CMC – Tell us about your wedding professionals:

Bride: Photographer – ” Great to work with and very talented. Love our photos, I would highly recommend.”

Dress Boutique – ” 7th Avenue Fashions is a great shop, very friendly and helpful staff. They always remembered us when we came in and went out of their way to make sure we were taken care of and happy. Highly recommend.”

Cake/Sweets – “Really delicious treats and lots of options to choose from and ways to personalize.  ”

Wedding Planner – “Great to work with had lots of ideas to help me achieve my vision.”

DJ – “Awesome DJ. Played great music that kept our guests dancing all night, the dance floor was packed. ”

Romantic Squamish Engagement from Karizma Photography

Squamish Engagement Session

Sisters, Natalia and Tatiana, the dynamic duo that together make up Karizma Photography, captured breathtaking images of Cara and Chris’s sweet engagement session at Furry Creek, near near Squamish, BC. We couldn’t be more thrilled that they took the time to share with us!

The location is stunning and the photos couldn’t be prettier! Romantic, secluded, full of natural textures and beauty, the images capture the scenery perfectly. What’s more, they capture Cara and Chris’s sweet love story immortalized in timeless beauty. We can only imagine the peaceful sounds of the water as it laps up on the shore and the quiet sounds of nature. Stolen, intimate moments perserved.

From Karizma Photography

“We were very excited to start our 2016 wedding season by photographing Cara and Chris’ sweet engagement! They wanted to take their engagement pictures at a beach near Squamish with mountains in the background, and we took them to an amazing beach at Furry Creek. It is one of our favorite spots along the Sea-to-Sky highway as it is very beautiful and very quiet, and has spectacular mountains views. We had a fun and relaxing Furry Creek Engagement session with Cara and Chris. They are such a pleasant couple to work with, and we are really excited to photograph their wedding in July 2016!” ~Natalia & Tatiana |  Karizma Photography

Marietta and Jeremy left sunny California on Christmas Day to travel to Banff for their romantic Banff elopement. The week leading up to their wedding, the weather in Banff was unseasonably warm. When their special day approached, as mountain weather sometimes does, it took a turn. Undeterred, Marietta and Jeremy were in the best of spirits, so in love and fully focused on being present on their special day.

On wedding day, Marietta and Jeremy met up with their photographer, Kim Payant Photography, and their videographers, Parfait Productions. It was important to the couple that every precious moment be documented and commemorated for themselves, their family and their friends.

In a small, intimate ceremony at the Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel, the couple exchanged their heartfelt vows to each other.

With Italian lace, the bride looked beautiful in the handmade dress and floral crown she lovingly made.

From the Bride:

How did you meet?

“We first met in the beer garden of a music festival in Los Angeles. We had mutual friends and neither of us could find them, so we ended up spending the whole time at the festival together getting to know each other. As the second day of the festival was ending, Jeremy said, ‘I just have to do this’ and leaned in and kissed me. He walked me to my car and said, ‘I want to know everything about you’. I knew then that this was someone I wanted to give my heart to and we’ve been inseparable ever since.”

Tell us about your proposal. How did Jeremy propose?

“A year after we met, we took a trip to Japan. One of the things we had planned was to climb to the top of Mt. Fuji. We planned to start our hike at 10pm to summit for the sunrise. We napped at a mountain hut at the base and woke up for a late meal and to start our ascent. It was pouring rain and we were hoping it would let up soon. It didn’t. Even with our mountaineering gear on we were completely soaked through a few hours later. We were also reaching an altitude were it was extremely cold and the rain was turning into snow. We were only a few hours from the top, but we had to turn back as the cold temperature combined with our now heavy, thoroughly drenched clothes would have caused our clothes to freeze and we’d be putting ourselves in an emergency situation. On top of that the winds had picked up and now the driving rain in the pitch black made it impossible to see even with our headlamps. We kept almost losing the trail. The decision was made to turn back and Jeremy reached our for my hand and yelled into the howling wind and rain, ‘Will you marry me?!’ I laughed and yelled, ‘Yes!!’ and then we ran stumbling and laughing, holding hands, as fast as we could back down the trail. It was scary, crazy, and fun. We genuinely lost the trail lower down and had some real moments of fear when we wondered whether we’d make it. With luck we came across a familiar landmark and new which way to go to get back to the hut. He gave me the ring at breakfast the next day. The box was soggy. All’s well that ends well. :)”

Why did you choose Banff for your wedding location?

“We chose Banff because we lived in Los Angeles and were craving some real Winter weather with snow and mountains. We’d always heard of how beautiful Banff was and it was a travel destination that we really wanted to experience.”

What was your favorite part of the day?

For both of us our favourite part of the day was saying our vows to each other. 🙂 We were so touched by what we wrote for each other and it was a very meaningful moment. My second favourite moment was eating the wedding cake that Crystal at Cake Creations made for us! The bottom layer was vanilla cake with espresso buttercream and the top layer was chocolate cake with mint buttercream. We were starving after the long day!”

Wow! You made your own wedding dress. Tell us about it!

” I used 2 patterns from the early 1960’s that I bought on eBay as a guide and one modern pattern. The two patterns from the 60’s, I combined the bodice pieces to make one bodice with some features of each. Then, I radically modified the fit of tha (e.g. the shape of the darts, the shape of the armholes, I dropped the back of the dress lower).

With the modern pattern I made the silk under bodice (with the sweetheart neckline) and other than making it smaller and longer it remained pretty much unchanged. The sleeves and silk bandeau I made on my own by making my own patterns. The skirt was 24 panels of tulle that Jeremy had to cut out and sew together, because I ran out of time! I had to hand sew the buttons onto the back of the dress while he did that. I wouldn’t have finished in time without him!

I sewed two tulle crinolines together to get the length and volume I needed for the skirt. They’re the biggest crinolines you can buy and I still needed two!”

Your Honeymoon Story?

“Banff was our ‘weddingmoon’, which apparently is becoming popular; having a destination wedding and then staying there for the honeymoon. It was so nice to have the wedding at the beginning of the trip and then get to explore the area and relax at the hot springs for the rest! We hiked Johnston Canyon, went dog-sledding, saw Lake Louise and the Chateau Lake Louise, tried many excellent restaurants, day-tripped to Radium Hot Springs, shopped on Banff Ave, and saw the cave at the Cave and Basin. Very cool!” ~ Marietta

Romantic Banff Elopement Highlight Reel:

We are so fortunate to feature Marietta and Jeremy’s beautiful elopement highlight reel courtesy of the talented Parfait Productions.

From Parfait Productions:

“These two lovebirds made the trip from beautiful, warm California, to brave the cold and get married surrounded by the gorgeous Canadian Rocky Mountains. We’ve never met a couple so deeply in love with each other! Almost every detail of their elopement was hand made by the bride and groom, including her wedding dress! Thank you both for including us in your romantic elopement!” ~ Ixchel + Justin

From Island Moments Photography:

“If you’ve ever made the journey to Mount Washington on Vancouver Island, you will immediately see why so many people who visit can’t help but say “it’s magic!”

There is something pretty darn amazing about walking on a seashell strewn beach in the morning, and having lunch amidst towering drifts of gorgeous, powdery snow just a few hours later.

When you leave the Island Highway in the Comox Valley you are still surrounded by a vibrant emerald forest – no matter what the season!  Climbing the mountain…switchback, switchback, green, green and then POW – suddenly there is snow… and not just a little bit.  Winter tires required, you are driving through a virtual tunnel of the white stuff!

When we contacted the resort about our session they warned us – to stay on the trail.  Lisa took one tiny step off the snow-packed path, and sunk into snow as high as her waist.  Needless to say that was all the warning everyone involved in the shoot needed.

Our models, Selina and Lee – are a couple – and it’s easy to see just how in love they are!

From a parking lot attendant who kindly showed us to the best spot on the mountain (in trade for a few home-made cookies), to the whiskey jacks that deigned to land on Lee’s hand for a few sunflower seeds, to mother nature who kindly shone golden light on us all – the session was breathtaking!

We hope you love this little bit of island magic on the mountain!”  ox, L&L
