Last week we shared a gorgeous Fairmont Banff Springs wedding from Alan Maudie Photography and Shannon Valente Weddings. Today we’re sharing the lovely details (you can see Part 1 here). It’s a beautifully photographed, classic wedding. Throw in a ‘castle’, stunning mountain scenery, gorgeous flowers and a seriously delicious looking sweets table and you know it’s going to be a stunning!

So much prettiness!

The couple chose a classic color palette of white, navy, and  gold, with pops of marsala. The combination proved to be a perfect fit for the room and complemented the elegant architecture.

The head table decked out with greenery and lace linens, made for a dramatic focal point. The roomed glowed under the soft lighting! Every detail was perfect.

This basketball hoop was for the couple’s ‘kissing game’; so clever! I’m guessing the couple had a lot of kissing to do with plenty of pro basketball players in attendance!

Such a beautifully styled sweets table full of decadent desserts for Melanie and Nathan’s guests to enjoy!

From the Bride and Groom / Favorite Wedding Details from their Fairmont Banff Wedding:

1. The sweets table. A lot of work went into our gorgeous cake, but the sweets table went far and beyond that, including cake pops, cookies, cupcakes and candy as part of the dessert. Custom signs and flower arrangements finished the look.

2. Our Flowers. Lyn (Flower Artistry) did an absolutely amazing job creating just the look we (and Mel’s mom, Janice) had in mind. We asked Lyn for loose, elegant arrangements, with lots of greenery, red and blush tones, and she more than delivered.

3. Our basketball hoop. The family is big into sports. We (Melissa and Nate) both played professional basketball (and Melissa’s brother plays hockey for the Calgary Flames). Instead of the usual clinking of the glasses, we spray-painted a full-sized, children’s basketball hoop navy and gold and had guests try to make a trick shot to make us kiss.

4. The Castle. Since the wedding was at the Banff Springs we wanted to play up the castle aspect with lots of grand centerpieces, gold accents and even castled themed items for the Photo Booth.

The Honeymoon:

After the wedding, Melissa and Nate, accompanied by some honeymoon-crashing friends, headed up to Kalamalka Lake for some post-wedding relaxation. Melissa had to start studying nearly right away for work, so it gave Nate plenty of time to plan their real honeymoon. Later, in November, the couple took off for a month in Southeast Asia, including stops in Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, Indonesia, and Hong Kong.

Today we are sharing this gorgeous Fairmont Banff Springs wedding from Alan Maudie Photography and Shannon Valente Weddings.

It’s such a beautiful wedding that we thought we would share it in two parts (so be sure to check back on Monday)! Melissa and Nate’s wedding is classic elegance at it’s best! The photography is simply stunning and the entire wedding is designed and styled to perfection!

alanmaudie_melnate_033

What I really love is about this wedding is how the couple has woven in their love for not only their family and friends but also their shared interests. This wedding is so beautiful, but what really makes it special is that the couple has personalized it with meaningful details. It’s everything a wedding should be! The couple is surrounded by dear friends and supportive family members who traveled from all over North America to share in their special day.

The Fairmont Banff Springs, or the “Castle in the Rockies” as it is sometimes called, along with the Canadian rocky mountains, was the backdrop to this heartfelt affair. The couple embraced the “Castle” theme and played up it’s best features in grand fashion! The venue’s Mount Stephan Hall was transformed with flowers from Flower Artistry.

The bride was stunning in her  Novia Mia gown as she cascaded down the aisle.

Melissa and Nate’s Wedding Story

How the Couple Met:

In the Spring of 2010, Melissa graduated from university and decided to continue her basketball career in Langen, Germany, a town of about 35,000. At that same time, Nathan was finishing up his 3rd season of professional basketball overseas, and he too found himself signing a contract with the men’s team in Langen for the upcoming season. After meeting in the gym, the two quickly became inseparable and spent two years together playing basketball and traveling through Europe before moving back to North America.

Engagement story:

Melissa’s parents have a cabin on Lake Kalamalka in British Columbia and Nate gathered both sets of parents (and the siblings who could make it) for a weekend at the lake to pop the question. Thinking they were all there to show Nate’s American parents around, Mel couldn’t figure out why Nate wanted to go out to the dock alone but allowed herself to be dragged out there with a bottle of wine. Nate got down on one knee and proposed, an image captured on camera by all the family looking on from afar.

From the Bride and Groom /  Favorite Wedding Moments:

1. The entrance and introduction of the wedding party.  We met playing basketball, and both have past teammates in our wedding party, so we thought it would be fun to announce the wedding party like a basketball team to the Chicago Bulls theme song. Our emcees did amazing “scouting report” descriptions of the bridal party.

2. The morning of the big day. Our bridal party and parents came from all over North America to be part of our big day. Given that we only see some of these people a few times a year (if we’re lucky!), we both really enjoyed having some time to catch up, relax, and celebrate before all the madness.

3. The champagne toast. We were a bit worried about having the ceremony outside (rightfully so, seeing as it snowed the night before!) but we also wanted to include some of the beautiful scenery in our wedding celebration. After the ceremony, we went out onto the terrace overlooking the mountains and did a champagne toast while mingling with the guests and taking some pictures.

This summer Banff wedding is one of those weddings with so much pretty! Seriously. I see a lot of weddings and this one is packed with so much lovely and is beautifully photographed by RARAA Photography. I am so excited to share this wedding with you! Every photograph is simply stunning. From the gorgeous couple to adorable kids, to the loving families, and the breathtaking mountain scenery, it’s the epitome of the perfect summer wedding in the mountains. I dare you not to love it as much as I do!

Banff summer wedding from Raraa Photography

Evanna and Daryl were married at the Presbyterian church in Banff, Alberta this past July. With family and friends present, on a perfect summer day, the couple said their heartfelt vows.

After a day of frolicking through wildflower meadows, canoeing and visiting some popular spots in Banff, the couple joined their guests at the Banff Park Lodge for their fun wedding reception. Could their day be any dreamier? There is just so much gorgeousness in this wedding. There is so much I could say about this wedding, but photos tell the story much better than I! Enjoy!

We are so excited to share this rustic Banff wedding that took place at the beautiful Buffalo Mountain Lodge, and was immepeccably photographed (as always) by Modern Photography.

Rustic Banff Wedding at Buffalo Mountain Lodge | Modern Photography

Brent and Darus’s had a heart-centered wedding in Banff, Alberta, surrounded by family and friends. It was everything you’d expect from a rustic wedding in Banff: tall trees; beautiful mountain scenery, and a charming lodge.

The intimate ceremony took place in the Wainwright room at Buffalo Mountain Lodge. The room features high ceilings and exposed wood beams. The couple chose simple, rustic decor to complement the space. With smiles from the grooms and the adorable ring bearer and flower girl, not much else was needed!

For the reception, the space was tastefully decorated with dark wood chivari chairs that contrasted the light wood timber beams of the Wapiti Longhouse. Wildflowers in mason jars with wood tree slices were used for the centrepieces. I love that the couple personalized the wedding with their love of wine, by making table numbers utilizing wine bottles. Saved corks became their initials. Their cleverly designed “guest book” was made from reclaimed wood and personalized with a plaque with their names.

As always the photographs from Modern Photography are stand outs! With a mix of fantastic outdoor portraits of the couple and their wedding party, and candid images capturing the love and emotion of day. You won’t want to miss this one!

From Modern Photography

“The day was relaxed and casual and I really liked that it seemed very fitting for these guys. They wanted a party and they wanted to celebrate with their friends and family. Brent and Darus and their wedding party wore custom suits and the grooms had monogrammed shirts.
The ceremony was held inside the lodge and officiated by the lovely Nomi Whalen accented by trees and an arch provided by Special Events Rentals in Banff.  I think picking a venue with its own wine cellar and an amazing menu was a superb choice. Buffalo Mountain Lodge in Banff, up on Tunnel Mountain is simply stunning. Minimal decorating is required as the simple elegance of the lodge is perfect the way it is.
One of my favourite parts of a wedding is the speeches.  I love hearing stories and seeing the connections. Darus and Brent’s family and friends certainly delivered and I think we were all wiping away tears. What followed was a mass exit to the wine cellar to sample some beverages and a wild night of dancing.” ~ Sarah | Modern Photography

Marietta and Jeremy left sunny California on Christmas Day to travel to Banff for their romantic Banff elopement. The week leading up to their wedding, the weather in Banff was unseasonably warm. When their special day approached, as mountain weather sometimes does, it took a turn. Undeterred, Marietta and Jeremy were in the best of spirits, so in love and fully focused on being present on their special day.

On wedding day, Marietta and Jeremy met up with their photographer, Kim Payant Photography, and their videographers, Parfait Productions. It was important to the couple that every precious moment be documented and commemorated for themselves, their family and their friends.

In a small, intimate ceremony at the Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel, the couple exchanged their heartfelt vows to each other.

With Italian lace, the bride looked beautiful in the handmade dress and floral crown she lovingly made.

From the Bride:

How did you meet?

“We first met in the beer garden of a music festival in Los Angeles. We had mutual friends and neither of us could find them, so we ended up spending the whole time at the festival together getting to know each other. As the second day of the festival was ending, Jeremy said, ‘I just have to do this’ and leaned in and kissed me. He walked me to my car and said, ‘I want to know everything about you’. I knew then that this was someone I wanted to give my heart to and we’ve been inseparable ever since.”

Tell us about your proposal. How did Jeremy propose?

“A year after we met, we took a trip to Japan. One of the things we had planned was to climb to the top of Mt. Fuji. We planned to start our hike at 10pm to summit for the sunrise. We napped at a mountain hut at the base and woke up for a late meal and to start our ascent. It was pouring rain and we were hoping it would let up soon. It didn’t. Even with our mountaineering gear on we were completely soaked through a few hours later. We were also reaching an altitude were it was extremely cold and the rain was turning into snow. We were only a few hours from the top, but we had to turn back as the cold temperature combined with our now heavy, thoroughly drenched clothes would have caused our clothes to freeze and we’d be putting ourselves in an emergency situation. On top of that the winds had picked up and now the driving rain in the pitch black made it impossible to see even with our headlamps. We kept almost losing the trail. The decision was made to turn back and Jeremy reached our for my hand and yelled into the howling wind and rain, ‘Will you marry me?!’ I laughed and yelled, ‘Yes!!’ and then we ran stumbling and laughing, holding hands, as fast as we could back down the trail. It was scary, crazy, and fun. We genuinely lost the trail lower down and had some real moments of fear when we wondered whether we’d make it. With luck we came across a familiar landmark and new which way to go to get back to the hut. He gave me the ring at breakfast the next day. The box was soggy. All’s well that ends well. :)”

Why did you choose Banff for your wedding location?

“We chose Banff because we lived in Los Angeles and were craving some real Winter weather with snow and mountains. We’d always heard of how beautiful Banff was and it was a travel destination that we really wanted to experience.”

What was your favorite part of the day?

For both of us our favourite part of the day was saying our vows to each other. 🙂 We were so touched by what we wrote for each other and it was a very meaningful moment. My second favourite moment was eating the wedding cake that Crystal at Cake Creations made for us! The bottom layer was vanilla cake with espresso buttercream and the top layer was chocolate cake with mint buttercream. We were starving after the long day!”

Wow! You made your own wedding dress. Tell us about it!

” I used 2 patterns from the early 1960’s that I bought on eBay as a guide and one modern pattern. The two patterns from the 60’s, I combined the bodice pieces to make one bodice with some features of each. Then, I radically modified the fit of tha (e.g. the shape of the darts, the shape of the armholes, I dropped the back of the dress lower).

With the modern pattern I made the silk under bodice (with the sweetheart neckline) and other than making it smaller and longer it remained pretty much unchanged. The sleeves and silk bandeau I made on my own by making my own patterns. The skirt was 24 panels of tulle that Jeremy had to cut out and sew together, because I ran out of time! I had to hand sew the buttons onto the back of the dress while he did that. I wouldn’t have finished in time without him!

I sewed two tulle crinolines together to get the length and volume I needed for the skirt. They’re the biggest crinolines you can buy and I still needed two!”

Your Honeymoon Story?

“Banff was our ‘weddingmoon’, which apparently is becoming popular; having a destination wedding and then staying there for the honeymoon. It was so nice to have the wedding at the beginning of the trip and then get to explore the area and relax at the hot springs for the rest! We hiked Johnston Canyon, went dog-sledding, saw Lake Louise and the Chateau Lake Louise, tried many excellent restaurants, day-tripped to Radium Hot Springs, shopped on Banff Ave, and saw the cave at the Cave and Basin. Very cool!” ~ Marietta

From Parfait Productions:

“These two lovebirds made the trip from beautiful, warm California, to brave the cold and get married surrounded by the gorgeous Canadian Rocky Mountains. We’ve never met a couple so deeply in love with each other! Almost every detail of their elopement was hand made by the bride and groom, including her wedding dress! Thank you both for including us in your romantic elopement!” ~ Ixchel + Justin
