Although forest fires north of Banff and in British Columbia made for some hazy views, it didn’t dampen this couple’s spirit! This past summer, Kim Payant Photography captured some unique, romantic and amazing landscape photos for Breanne and Tristan’s Banff picnic engagement session that was put together and styled by Naturally Chic.
From Kim Payant:
“Breanne and Tristan were such a fun couple to photograph, even if it wasn’t the best day to see the mountains!
This shoot is quite unique because it happened during the forest fires and it was one of the worst days for visibility in the mountains. We still went for it because it creates a surreal environment. The mountains look like they were painted in the background because it was so smokey. I started the shoot with photos of just the couple having fun and being romantic together. We then finished the shoot on a rocky beach by Minnewanka Lake where they were able to sit down and enjoyed their personalized picnic created by Sharon from Naturally Chic.”
From Naturally Chic:
“I had been thinking about a romantic picnic in the mountains for some time and was thrilled when Kim from Kim Payant Photography suggested that we create one for Breanne and Tristan. I had always thought that the rocky beach overlooking Lake Minnewanka in Banff National Park would be the perfect spot for a romantic picnic for two and a styled engagement session. Kim loved my suggestion!
Breanne and Tristan have a modern sensibility in terms of their wedding decor, so I thought instead of using a traditional picnic basket, I would create something for them with a more modern feel. I wanted something more sturdy, something you could ‘toss in the back of your vehicle and fill with food before hitting the mountains’, would be perfect for Breanne and Tristan’s visit to the mountains.
I created a wood picnic crate for it’s functionality and personalized it with their name and wedding date. Both Kim and I thought it could make a cute card box at their wedding too and it could be used to store all those wedding mementos after the wedding (wedding stationery, cards, favours, menu etc.)! We filled the crate with quintessential picnic food, sandwiches, salad in a jar, fresh fruit and of course local favorites such as The Grizzly Paw soda and chocolate ‘bear’s paws’. I used wood cutlery, mason jars and reusable plates to reduce waste.
I also made the couple a maple wood cutting board and personalized it with their names and wedding date. Not only could this be used for the picnic, but hopefully something they can use in their home after the wedding!”
Breanne and Tristan will say their “I do’s” in Canmore this coming August. Both Kim Payant Photography and Naturally Chic will team up again for their sure to be fabulous wedding! Thanks to Kim Payant for sharing the photos with us today and for Breanne and Tristan for being such great sports!
